Maine Weatherization and Low-Income Energy Programs
Maine Weatherization
The Maine Housing Authority operates the Weatherization and Central Heating Improvement Programs (CHIP) to finance energy-related repairs for low-income homeowners and renters. The programs are run through Maine's Community Action Program (CAP) agencies. Low-income persons in need of weatherization services, or repairs to their heating system, should contact their local CAP agency.
The Weatherization program may be used to pay for improvements that increase the energy efficiency of the home — such things as insulation, weatherstripping, and in some cases safety-related repairs. The CHIP program pays for repairs or replacement of central heating equipment.
