The following organizations are stakeholders of the DOE Weatherization Assistance Program itself or help advance home energy science that improves energy efficiency for low-income families.

  • Affordable Comfort

    Located in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, Affordable Comfort sponsors national and regional conferences on the East Coast and Midwest addressing residential building science.

  • Campaign for Home Energy Assistance

    Also, known as the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, the campaign is a nonprofit organization located in Washington DC that advocates for low-income energy assistance. The campaign keeps track of stories relating to weatherization and low-income energy assistance programs through LIHEAP News.

    A state may use a certain percentage of its LIHEAP funds for weatherization.

  • Economic Opportunity Studies

    Located in Washington DC, Economic Opportunity Studies (EOS) is a nonprofit organization that provides analysis of low-income and energy-related programs, including Weatherization. Most of EOS’ online publications are listed under "Recent Work."

  • Home Energy Magazine

    Published bimonthly out of Berkeley, California, Home Energy has loads of information for consumers about energy-related products for residential construction and remodeling. This magazine has home performance information targeted to both consumers and home energy science professionals.

  • LIHEAP Clearinghouse-Online Publications

    The LIHEAP Clearinghouse has documented the funding history of the Low-Income Heating Assistance Program in great detail.

    The LIHEAP Clearinghouse and the National Center for Appropriate Technology also publishes a monthly newsletter dealing with how states deal with their low-income energy assistance programs. Select the "newsletter" link from the home page, or read the current issue of LIHEAPnetworker.

  • National Low-Income Energy Consortium (NLIEC)

    NLIEC is a non-profit organization made up of representatives from government, the private-sector, nonprofit organizations and individuals for the purpose of reducing the residential energy hardships and crises faced by low-income consumers. NLIEC has a national conference, local projects, and helps foster regional coalitions addressing low-income energy issues.

  • State Energy Advisory Board

    The State Energy Advisory Board consists of at least eight state energy office directors and four state weatherization program directors whose purpose is to advise DOE about energy policies that affect the states. It serves to provide consistence between state, local, and national energy programs. It reports yearly to Congress on its activities and recommendations.

  • "Weatherization in Indian Country"

    DOE's State Energy Program publishes this article in the November-December edition of its newsletter, Conservation Update. The article is written by Dave Castillo of the Inter Tribal Council of Arizona about the successes of Indian weatherization crews in the state.
