DOE's Roles in the Weatherization Assistance Program
The U.S. Department of Energy's responsibilities in the Weatherization Program are to:
- Provide funding to the states; total contribution of more than $5 billion since 1978.
- Set national guidelines for eligibility.
- Establish the technical merit of energy efficiency measures.
- Document energy savings.
- Provide technical training and assistance to weatherization service providers.
The States' Roles in the Weatherization Assistance Program
The states, in their turn, are responsible to:
- Make the rules and set standards for eligibility in each state.
- Contract with local weatherization agencies.
- Monitor agency work to ensure quality.
