Program Implementation

Since 2002, DOE's Tribal Energy Program has invested more than $30 million in 129 tribal energy projects across the country (2002-2010). For a map of project locations and project summaries, see Projects on Tribal Lands. These tribal projects reflect a diversity of technologies and geographic distributions.

A map of the United States with colored dots pinpointing the locations of 129 projects throughout the continental U.S. and Alaska. There are 42 orange dots representing First Steps projects, 68 blue dots representing feasibility projects, 11 yellow dots representing development projects, and 8 white dots representing deployment projects.

From 2002 through 2010, DOE awarded $30.4 million in funding for 129 tribal energy projects that are in various stages of development across the continental U.S. and Alaska.

Roughly a quarter pipeline are planning and training projects, another quarter are wind projects, and the remainder of the pie is made up of biomass, building efficiency, hydropower, geothermal, solar projects, and multi-technology projects.

DOE supports a wide variety of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in an effort to assist tribes in fulfilling their energy visions.
