Alabama Grants Poultry Producer with Efficiency Upgrade

July 11, 2005

Alabama Governor Bob Riley awarded a grant of $23,688 to Michael Brown Farms on July 11. The grant came from the state's oil overcharge funding and is administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA). Michael Brown Farms will use the funding to install insulation and temperature controllers at its broiler raising facilities in Arab, Alabama. ADECA estimates the energy efficiency improvements will save the company more than $10,000 a year in energy costs and will improve the quality of poultry meat.

Governor Riley said, "Energy-efficiency measures such as these help agriculture remain a viable industry in Alabama." For more information, see the governor's July 11 press release.
