Iowa Approves Curriculum to Train Wind Technicians

The Iowa Department of Education approved a new curriculum to train wind technicians at the Iowa Lakes Community College. It is the first such curriculum to be approved in the state and will lead to a two-year Associate Science degree. Iowa Lakes has six campuses that serve rural communities in northwest Iowa. Classes that focus on wind turbines will begin in September 2004. According to the American Wind Energy Association, starting salaries for wind technicians in the area are about $14 per hour.
