Mississippi Governor Declares Solar Car Day

August 03, 2003

Mississippi Governor Ronnie Musgrove declared July 17 "Houston Solar Car Day" in recognition of the Houston, Mississippi, Solar Car Race Team winning the Winston Solar Challenge. "Our investment in education is seen when our students compete with anyone, anytime, anywhere," Musgrove said. "The students involved in this race represent the very best we have to offer, not just in Mississippi, but around the country." The Houston Solar Car Race Team was a student-based team from the Houston Vocational Center with assistance from the Mississippi State University. This competition challenges high school students around the world to design and build solar-based cars. For details, see the governor's July 18 press release.
