Washington D.C. City Government 100% Wind Powered

Washington D.C. has announced that in 2012 the city will purchase renewable energy certificates (RECs) to equal 100% of the city's electricity demand. In 2009, the city purchased 534,000 megawatt-hours to account for 50% of the city's electrical demand, and the increased purchase in 2012 marks the first time the city has been powered by 100% renewable electricity. In addition, the contract price for the procurement of RECs in the latest agreement represents a 43% discount over the 2011 REC price per unit.
