DOE Funds Clean Energy Projects on Tribal Lands and Alaska Villages
DOE announced on August 13 its award of up to $13.6 million in multi-year funding for new clean energy projects on tribal lands. In addition to the Alaskan villages, the funding will go to tribes and in Arizona, Arkansas, California, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Washington, and Wisconsin. Interior Department Awards $15 Million for Forest Thinning on Public Lands
The Interior Department will direct Recovery Act funds toward 55 projects to remove "hazardous fuels" from areas susceptible to wildfires. Of those 55 projects, 23 in eight states are designated as biomass utilization projects, which means that the small trees, accumulated deadwood, and underbrush will be converted to energy. More

The National Governors Association has announced it has brokered partnerships between General Motors Corporation and 10 states to enhance access to E85. The partnerships will work to select the best pump locations and advance development and usage of the states' E85 infrastructure. More

Wisconsin Announces Clean Energy Plan, $150 Million in Energy Independence Funds
Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle launched his state energy plan, Clean Energy Wisconsin, on March 25. In support of that plan, he also announced the Department of Commerce will begin taking applications for the first round of $150 million in grants for renewable energy projects. Both the plan and the funding emphasize the state's biomass potential. More
