Ohio State University Wins First Year of EcoCAR Challenge
A team from Ohio State University has the winning design for electrifying a 2009 Saturn VUE to improve its fuel economy and cut its emissions. The team chose an extended-range electric vehicle design for its winning entry, beating out 16 other university teams. But now they have to actually build it. More

Ford Begins Production of Fuel-Efficient Engines at Cleveland Plant
About 250 Ford Motor Company employees in Cleveland, Ohio, can now say they have "green jobs," as they are now building Ford's new fuel-efficient EcoBoost engine. GM will also bring green jobs to Flint, Michigan, by December 2010 to build the engine for the Chevy Volt and the Chevy Cruze. More

National Governors Association, General Motors, and 10 States to Develop Ethanol Infrastructure
The National Governors Association has announced it has brokered partnerships between General Motors Corporation and 10 states to enhance access to E85. The partnerships will work to select the best pump locations and advance development and usage of the states' E85 infrastructure. More

Ohio Requires 25% Renewable or Advanced Energy by 2025
A new Ohio law requires the state's utilities to draw on renewable or "advanced" energy for 25% of their electricity supply by 2025, with renewable energy meeting at least half of that requirement. The new law also requires utilities to establish energy efficiency and demand reduction programs. More

Midwest States and Manitoba Sign Agreements to Reduce Greenhouse Gases, Promote Energy Efficiency and Renewables
Nine Midwestern states and the Canadian province of Manitoba signed an agreement to promote energy security and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, 11 Midwestern states have adopted a platform that establishes other regional goals to promote energy efficiency, biobased products, renewable sources for electricity, and carbon capture and storage.
