DOE Funds Clean Energy Projects on Tribal Lands and Alaska Villages
DOE announced on August 13 its award of up to $13.6 million in multi-year funding for new clean energy projects on tribal lands. In addition to the Alaskan villages, the funding will go to tribes and in Arizona, Arkansas, California, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Washington, and Wisconsin. Obama Administration Delivers More than $288 Million for Weatherization Programs in Seven States
DOE delivered more than $288 million in Recovery Act funding on July 6 to expand weatherization assistance programs in Arkansas, Iowa, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, and New Hampshire. The funds will help these states achieve their goal of weatherizing more than 91,000 homes of families earning low incomes. More

DOE Awards $49 Million for Clean Energy in Michigan and Iowa
DOE is awarding more than $49 million in Recovery Act funds to support energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in Michigan and Iowa, as part of DOE's State Energy Program. The two states have now received half of the Recovery Act funds available to them under the program. More

New Wind Turbine Plant Employs Former Auto Workers in Michigan
Former auto workers will be able to put their steel-working and assembly line skills back to work at a new wind turbine manufacturing plant in Michigan. The plant has hired 30 employees and expects to hire 80 more during the next three years. More

Michigan Governor Pushes Big Cut in Fossil Fuel Use, Touts Renewable Energy
Michigan should reduce its reliance on fossil fuels for generating electricity by 45 percent by 2020, Governor Jennifer Granholm said in her State of the State speech. In so doing, the state will grow its renewable energy and energy efficiency industries, creating more jobs, she said. Granholm also praised the economic benefits that those industries have already brought to Michigan. More

Michigan Expands Development and Production of Renewable Fuels and Advanced Batteries
The governor of Michigan signed legislation in December and January that will expand production and use of renewable fuels and encourage the development and manufacture of advanced batteries. The new batteries are being developed to power alternative vehicles, such as plug-in hybrids. More

National Governors Association, General Motors, and 10 States to Develop Ethanol Infrastructure
The National Governors Association has announced it has brokered partnerships between General Motors Corporation and 10 states to enhance access to E85. The partnerships will work to select the best pump locations and advance development and usage of the states' E85 infrastructure. More
