Maryland Aims for a 25% Cut in Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 2020
Maryland has approved legislation that requires the state to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to 25% below 2006 levels by 2020. Achieving that goal may be tricky, as the legislation also restricts greenhouse gas reductions for the state's manufacturing plants. More

Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative Raises More Than $117 Million in Third Auction
Funds raised by a mid-March auction of carbon dioxide emissions allowances by the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative exceeded $117 million, $10 million more than the auction held in December 2008. Maryland Releases Climate Action Plan
The Maryland Commission on Climate Change has released a plan aimed at reducing the state's greenhouse gases by 25 percent to 50 percent by 2020. When fully implemented, the commission says, the net economic benefit to Maryland would be about $2 billion. More

Maryland Approves Wide-Ranging Clean Energy Bills
Maryland now requires utilities to draw on renewable energy for 20% of their electricity supply by 2022. The state will also be requiring utilities to establish energy efficiency programs, with the goal of a 15% reduction in per capita electricity use and peak demand by the end of 2015. More

Maryland Removes Utility Disincentives for Energy Efficiency
The Maryland Public Service Commission has "decoupled" utility revenues from electricity sales for the state's regulated utilities, thereby removing a huge disincentive for the utilities to promote energy efficiency. A similar approach has proven successful in California and Oregon. More
