Interior Department Expedites Solar Energy Development in the West
The Interior Department has identified 24 large tracts of public land that could potentially host utility-scale solar power plants. The agency is studying the environmental and resource suitability of the tracts, located in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah, with the intent to speed the development of solar power facilities in the West. Federal Agencies to Assist with Clean Energy Development in the West
DOE and the Western Governor's Association released a report on June 15 that identifies 37 "hubs" for renewable energy in the western United States, plus 17 in western Canada and in Baja California. The hubs could yield nearly 200,000 megawatts of renewable power, and DOE and other federal agencies will strive to help make that happen. More

The governor of Colorado has signed a bill requiring home builders to offer buyers pre-wiring and pre-plumbing for solar systems. In addition to saving homeowners money at a crucial point in the building process, the bill is expected to create jobs for solar system designers and installers. More

Colorado Approves Resource Plan with Potential for 1,450 Megawatts of Renewable Energy
The Colorado Public Utilities Commission has issued a decision approving an Xcel Energy resource plan that includes the potential to add up to 600 megawatts of renewable energy resources with storage capability, such as concentrating solar power, and 850 megawatts of intermittent renewable energy resources, such as wind.
