DOE announced on August 13 its award of up to $13.6 million in multi-year funding for new clean energy projects on tribal lands. In addition to the Alaskan villages, the funding will go to tribes and in Arizona, Arkansas, California, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Washington, and Wisconsin. EPA Grants Greenhouse Gas Waiver to California

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has granted California's request for a waiver that allows the state to enforce its own greenhouse gas emissions standards—currently more stringent than federal standards. In her decision, EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson said that Congress always intended for California to "serve as a pioneer and a laboratory for the nation in setting new motor vehicle emission standards."
