The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), the New York Public Service Commission (PSC), and National Grid announced on March 14 that the EmPower New York™ program will receive $9 million per year in funding through 2010. PSC William Flynn said, "Combined with additional commission approved programs that include discounted bills, budget counseling and arrears forgiveness for low-income customers, New York State is taking a comprehensive approach to helping those most in need address the challenges of rising energy prices." For more information, see NYSERDA's March 14 press release.

EmPower New York provides low-income families with weatherization and other energy efficiency services that complement those provided under the DOE Weatherization Assistance Program. NYSERDA manages the program as part of New York Energy $mart, which is a series of energy efficiency programs funded by utility customers. Read more about EmPower New York.
