New Mexico Requires High-Performance State Buildings

January 16, 2006

New Mexico's Governor Bill Richardson signed an Executive Order on January 16 requiring the state to adopt the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED standards and to implement and facilitate the use of high-performance energy-efficient green building practices for all state-funded existing and new buildings in New Mexico. Several other provisions of the order encourage energy-efficient building practices, including the formation of a "Public Schools Clean Energy Task Force" convened to implement aggressive energy efficiency measures in all schools. See the text of the Executive Order on the Governor's Web site.
