Terra Haute Fuel Provider Becomes Indiana's First With E85

July 08, 2005

Indiana Senator Dick Lugar visited the Jiffy Mini-Mart in Terra Haute on July 8 to congratulate them on becoming Indiana's first fuel provider to offer ethanol E85 for sale to the public. E85 is a mixture of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline that can run in flexible-fuel vehicles designed to run on any combination of ethanol or gasoline. The fuel provider boasts of its first-in-state E85 offering on the Spence/Banks Web site.

Indiana now joins the growing ranks of states with E85 stations. The National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition (NEVC) reports in its August newsletter that the station in Terra Haute becomes the 160th to open so far this year. DOE's Alternative Fuel Data Center keeps a count of the number of alternative fuel stations by state.
