Rhode Island Establishes Efficiency Standards for 13 Appliances

Rhode Island Governor Donald L. Carcieri signed House Bill (HB) 5307 into law on June 30. The bill establishes minimum energy efficiency standards for thirteen appliances. Read the legislation (PDF 32 KB).

The appliances affected include:

  • Automatic commercial ice makers
  • Commercial clothes washers
  • Commercial refrigerators and freezers
  • Electronic ballasts for high intensity discharge light fixtures
  • Exit signs
  • Low-voltage distribution transformers
  • Mercury vapor lamps
  • Metal halide lamps (and probe-start ballasts)
  • Packaged air conditioners
  • Pull-down refrigerators
  • Single voltage AC to DC power supplies
  • Torchiere lamps
  • Traffic signals
  • Unit heaters
