Providence Becomes First Northeast Capital to Commit to 20% Renewable Energy

The Providence, Rhode Island, City Council unanimously adopted a measure to commit the city to purchasing 20% of its electricity from renewable energy resources by 2010. Providence thus becomes the first capital in the Northeast to commit to this level of renewable energy purchases. The resolution allows the city to set up a task force to develop a plan for carrying out the resolution.
