Iowa Governor Receives Flexible-Fuel SUV from General Motors

July 07, 2005

General Motors donated an ethanol-enabled Chevrolet Tahoe to Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack on July 7 to promote the benefits of E85. Vilsack accepted the keys to the vehicle while standing in a cornfield in Pleasant Hill near Des Moines. The governor is an acknowledged champion of ethanol produced from corn that has become a growing market for the state's corn growers. Vilsack said, "It's good the environment. It's good for the economy. It's good for America."

E85 is a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline, and is available in 18 fueling stations in Iowa. The state is the largest single consumer of E85, with more than 1,400 flexible-fuel vehicles that can run on E85, traditional gasoline, or a mixture of the two fuels. For details, see an article by Dan Gearino in the July 7 edition of the Sioux City Journal.
