Rosebud Sioux Turbine Complete

May 03, 2003

A 750-kilowatt wind turbine was dedicated April 30 - May 1 by the Rosebud Sioux tribe. The turbine is expected to produce more than 2 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, which will supply 80% of the power for the Rosebud Casino and motel. Excess electricity will go to Basin Electric. Ellsworth Air Force Base and Native Energy will buy the generated green tags, which have been marketed to thousands of individuals and businesses.

Assistance for the turbine was provided by a grant from the Department of Energy and a loan from the Rural Utilities Services of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
