Utah Enacts Net Metering

October 02, 2002

Utah becomes the 36th state to enact a net metering for grid-connect customers with solar, wind, small hydropower, or fuel-cell systems with rated capacities up to 25 kW. If net metering results in excess customer-generated electricity during the billing period, the customer may carry forward a credit to offset purchases of electricity during future billing periods in the same year. Any unused credits expire at the end of the calendar year. Total customer participation is capped at 0.1% of the utility's 2001 peak demand. For more information, read the bill.
