Oklahoma's second wind power plant started operation on December 23. Located near Lawton, about 85 miles southwest of Oklahoma City, the Blue Canyon Wind Farm has 45 wind turbines with a combined rated capacity of 74.25 MW. The Western Farmers Electric Cooperative (WFEC) will purchase all electricity produced at Blue Canyon under Oklahoma's first power purchase agreement for renewable energy. The 20-year agreement, which was signed in January 2003, set the stage for construction and interconnection of Blue Canyon in December.
