Bureau of Land Management Begins Wind EIS for Western States

December 03, 2003

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced on October 17 it is beginning a multistep process to develop a Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) that relates to the potential development of wind energy on BLM-administered lands in the West. The EIS, which is required under the National Environmental Policy Act to evaluate the effects of federal agency actions on the environment, will evaluate issues associated with wind energy development and consider the amendment of land-use plans throughout the region.

BLM is holding five regional meetings from October through December to obtain input and asks for comments on its Wind Energy Programmatic EIS Web site.
