North Carolina Readies Green Builder Program

December 03, 2003

The North Carolina Sate Energy Office announced in its September-October newsletter that it is finalizing details for the North Carolina Green Builder Program. Green builder programs started in Austin, Texas, in the early 1990s and are now spreading across the country. Almost two dozen are in place today.

The North Carolina program will target three groups: builders, homeowners, and financial providers. When the energy office began work on the program several years ago, it was intended to help homeowners with solar hot water installations. It has grown substantially to include "whole-building design," and it promises to be one of the country's best. For details on the program, see North Carolina Solar Center's program summary.
