Oklahoma Regulators Approve Green Power Program

October 03, 2003

The Oklahoma Corporation Commission approved a green pricing program in August that Oklahoma Gas & Electric (OG&E) will offer to its customers beginning October 1. The electricity will come from OG&E's participation in the 102-MW Oklahoma Wind Energy Center project that is under construction near Woodward. The base price of the wind power will be $0.02/kWh. However, green power subscribers will be exempted from the utility's fuel adjustment charge, which is currently about $0.015/kWh. This adjustment makes the effective premium for the wind power only $0.005/kWh. An average residential customer will be able to purchase wind energy for all his electricity needs for a $5.00 monthly premium. This makes OG&E one of the lowest cost green power providers in the country.
