Foundry Installs Heat Recovery

January 03, 2003

A Milwaukee foundry is saving nearly $63,000 by installing new, state-of-the-art heat recovery and upgrading its compressed air system. The Motor Castings Company announced on December 11th that it is installing a new heat recovery system installed by Environmental Systems, Inc., of Waukesha, an HVAC industry expert and Focus on Energy ally. The heat recovery unit preheats combustion air fed to burners in an incinerator that removes volatile organic compounds escaping from the metal during preheating prior to melting at the foundry. Motor Castings is the first company to use this industrial heat-recovery design.

Focus on Energy and the Milwaukee utility, We Energies, provided technical assistance to Motor Castings to identify savings and pay for the difference between a traditional upgrade and this energy-efficient one. For more information, see the Focus on Energy press release.
