Carbondale (IL) Opts for 100% Green Option in Community Choice Aggregation Vote

January 15, 2013

Carbondale, Illinois has voted for a 100% renewable energy plan offered by Ameren among six alternatives presented to the city council as options for the community's electrical aggregation contract. The 100% renewable energy option offers green power to Carbondale residents at a 2% premium over the cheapest available option to the council. The aggregation of the city's and several other regional communities' electrical demand, however, will provide 100% green power at a savings over standard usage costs.

For customers who do not opt out of the community choice aggregation plan, Ameren will offer rates of $0.044/kilowatt-hour (kWh) for the 100% green power option, compared to the standard offering of more than $0.05/kWh.
