Wellesley Becomes First EPA Green Power Community in Massachusetts
The town of Wellesley has become the first Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Green Power Community in Massachusetts. To achieve this designation, a community must acquire at least 3% of its electricity from sources of green power and Wellesley's current percentage of renewable use sits at 4.12%. The bulk of this renewably generated electricity stems from community members enrolling in the Wellesley's Renewable Energy program. The Renewable Energy program is a local voluntary green power program that purchases its power from the Spruce Mountain wind farm in Maine. Presently, 11.8% of Municipal Light Plant accounts participate in the voluntary green power program.Additional Information -Babson College Honored As Green Power Partner
