South Dakota Establishes Mechanism for Trading Renewable Energy Certificates, Sets Standards for Biodiesel

March 01, 2006

South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds signed a bill on February 28 that allows the South Dakota Public Utility Commission (PUC) to track the trading of renewable energy credits for electricity generated from renewable energy resources in the state. The bill, House Bill (HB) 1016, also allows the PUC to verify the source of these credits. This action allows companies generating renewable energy credits (RECs) to participate in regional trading of REC certificates. Read the bill (HB-1016).

On February 22, the governor signed Senate Bill (SB) 39, which defines and sets standards for biodiesel fuels to be mixed with conventional diesel fuel. Read the bill (SB-39).
