Central Texas Flexible Fuel Vehicle Drivers to Benefit from H-E-B Ethanol Sites

June 01, 2006

San Antonio-based H-E-B Grocery Company announced on May 31 that it has selected five sites along IH35 to dispense corn-based E85 (a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline), which can be used to power flexible fuel vehicles. All the sites are expected to be operational this summer.

Texas has about 450,000 flexible fuel vehicles, more than any other state. These vehicles can operate on gasoline or on blends of ethanol as high as 85%. Automakers such as Ford, Chevrolet, and Nissan are ramping up production of flexible fuel vehicles.

The five retrofitted sites will be easy for flexible fuel vehicle drivers to spot — the pumps will be wrapped in images of blue skies and cornstalks.
