High Performance Housing in the Mid-South Region

SEP Special Project, North Carolina, 2005

The project provided direct technical assistance on high performance buildings to affordable home builders in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Kentucky and to targeted production builders in the region.

The project designed highly efficient passive solar homes for affordable housing organizations and worked with a wide variety of builders in more conventional markets to increase implementation of innovative approaches. The project also provided professional training developed policies.

The project worked with builders to develop an integrated, whole-building approach to reduce heating and cooling loads to minimal levels. It monitored energy use and other conditions in the homes built under the program. It also disseminated the results to building professionals across the region and nation.
