Rebuild America Expansion Project

SEP Special Project, Pennsylvania, 2004

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has reviewed proposals from more than 20 applicants and has selected four top projects for potential implementation under the DOE Rebuild America (RBA) program. Two of these projects represent a continuation of funding of previous Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP) RBA projects. Two are exciting new projects that PA DEP has selected as key areas of RBA program expansion in accordance with DOE and DEP's combined vision for RBA in Pennsylvania. The projects represent a diverse range of projects types and collectively cover nearly every aspect and sector of RBA, including K-!2 schools, colleges and universities, commercial buildings, and state and local government, etc. The projects represent in excess of 100% match funding, which demonstrates aggressive partnering, team building, and leveraging of funds from many sources. PA DEP is excited about implementing the following projects in the coming year:

  • The PA DEP will work with the Meadville Community Energy Project (MCEP) at Allegheny College to launch a new initiative for regional congregations. It will be designed to assess core energy issues for religious facilities, introduce facilities management, and develop a network for information exchange. MCEP will also offer workshops to businesses, institutions, and industries that use RBA partners to implement programs that focus on energy-related solutions. MCEP will also continue to offer the low-interest Home Energy Loan Program and residential Home Energy Ratings.
  • The PA DEP and the Philadelphia Rebuild Partnership will work with the Alliance to Save Energy's Philadelphia Green Schools program, the Institute for Local Self Reliance, and Drexel University to promote and implement campus energy efficiency and enhance the Philadelphia Green Schools Program in public schools by developing opportunities for the transfer of knowledge between K-12 schools and universities.
  • The PA DEP will work with with the Pennsylvania Consortium for Interdisciplinary Environmental Policy (PCIEP), the West Penn Energy Sustainability Fund and the Pennsylvania State University to sponsor a one-day workshop designed to reinforce a growing network of Pennsylvania colleges and universities to train and share information about: facilitating better environmental performance while minimizing cost, and plan, develop, and implement college and university-based, community energy conservation projects.
  • The PA DEP will work with the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors (PSATS) to implement a series of training workshops on high-performance, energy-efficient green building technologies for local government leaders.
