SEP Special Project, Nevada, 2004
The Nevada State Office of Energy will lead a collaborative program with the Clark County School District, the Nevada Small Business Development Center (NSBDC), and the National Energy Foundation (NEF), to initiate, expand, and enhance Rebuild America - EnergySmart Schools partnerships within Nevada. The Rebuild Nevada — Energy Action program, coordinated by NEF, will promote Rebuild America goals in Clark County K-12 schools, local governments, and commercial entities. This program takes a multisector approach to build on successes in the state. It addresses opportunities for raising energy awareness through education and awareness programs, improved buildings performance, and new building construction through a Rebuild America - EnergySmart Schools menu of services, products, and resources. The Clark County School District project will use the EnergySmart Schools In Action program, a proven model developed by NEF, which is in the seventh year of implementation in the Jordan School District, Sandy, Utah, and the fourth year in Brevard County Public Schools, Cocoa Beach, Florida. This holistic program engages school district administrators, building principals, custodians, teachers, and students in energy use and management in their schools. Quantitative energy savings through behavior modification will be established. The school-to-home program component will allow learning to be applied at home and in the community at large. Local utility companies, Nevada Power, and Southwest Gas will integrate energy education programs to maximize the teaching and learning of wise energy behaviors in school buildings. The Nevada Small Business Development Center will lead project efforts in the local government and commercial building sectors. Ultimate goals of this component are to: - Set up a sustainable process for measuring and reporting energy performance results.
- Introduce new technologies and renewable energy alternatives to cities and local businesses.
- Design and facilitate the use of an energy conservation lease amendment to encourage the cooperation of landlord and tenant in making capital investments for energy conservation.
- Provide energy conservation education and awareness programs to people who influence the use of energy in small businesses.
