SEP Special Project, Michigan, 2004
Rebuild Michigan is designed to foster partnerships that will promote increased energy efficiency and renewable energy within a community. This program focuses on community-based energy planning to ensure that local needs are met, that a sustained local effort is established, and that local products and services are used whenever possible. Communities that participate in the Rebuild Michigan program develop comprehensive energy use strategies and organize a coalition to work toward fulfilling community energy goals. Coalition members may include local governments, schools, energy utilities, churches, businesses, and other interested groups. Community partnerships will identify energy efficiency opportunities in commercial, institutional, and multifamily buildings in their area and encourage improvements that will yield the highest energy and cost savings. Additional components such as developing renewable energy and the use of alternative transportation fuels are also encouraged. Specific results from this project will include completion of introductory energy analyses on 55-75 buildings and completion of 51-61 detailed energy analyses and renewable energy project feasibility studies. Rebuild Michigan will work with partners to ensure that energy efficiency improvements and renewable energy equipment are installed in 55-75 buildings.
