SEP Special Project, Nebraska, 2003
The purpose of this project is to design and develop a value-engineered green built home that will become Nebraska's benchmark for truly affordable housing. The first time home buyer affordable housing market will be improved through the best possible design, testing, and redesign of a house and specifications that together create a building system performance package.
A prototype will be constructed by a certified green builder. The construction site will provide hands-on training for builders, subcontractors, and suppliers to learn energy- and resource-efficient building practices. The project will also provide a design manual that guides builders through all phases of construction and the building system performance process.
This project will demonstrate that quality, energy efficient, environmentally friendly and affordable housing can be built with little or no extra initial construction costs and save the occupants money over the long term.
