Arizona Projects Funded by Its 2007 Formula Grant from DOE's State Energy Program

Arizona used U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) funds from its State Energy Program (SEP) Formula Grant to implement the following project in 2007. For more information on energy projects in Arizona, see the Arizona Department of Commerce.

Buildings

The Residential Technical Transfer Program used integrated approach to assisting, correcting, and building residential structures based on the "House as a System" framework in Arizona's housing market.

The State Building Energy Efficiency Program provided technical assistance to state government departments, agencies, universities, and community colleges. The technical assistance provided through the State Energy Efficiency Demonstration program consisted of on-site energy audits, training through seminars and workshops, information on new energy products, and researching financing opportunities.

Energy Efficient New Commercial Construction and Renovation Program is a government led "Lead by Example" initiative to help state and local governments achieve substantial energy costs savings while promoting the adoption of clean energy technologies to the commercial building sectors.

The Energy Efficient Schools Program provided technical assistance and policy direction to the School Facility Board and school districts for developing and implementing energy efficiency, renewables, and green buildings.

The Community Energy Program (CEP) helped Arizona communities develop sustainable energy management through utility tracking, technical assistance, and long-range planning. CEP created a proactive partnership between the Department of Commerce Energy Office and the CEP recipient. Qualified CEP partners were Arizona incorporated cities, towns, counties, improvement districts, and Indian tribes with populations smaller than 70,000.

This work is reflected in the following SEP topics:

  • Commercial Buildings
  • Schools
  • State and Local Government Facilities

Electric Power and Renewable Energy

Renewable Energy Program promotes the development and utilization of renewable energy by supporting the Solar Power America program, hosting lectures and presentations, and promoting rebates and incentives.

This work is reflected in the following SEP topics:

  • Solar Power

Energy Education

The Education and Community Outreach Program provided consumers with energy information that allowed them to make informed choices about energy efficiency and renewable energy. It developed materials in conjunction with utilities, educators, and public and private organizations that were presented in publications, videos, workshops, and on the Internet. These materials were distributed or used in presentations at public forums, educational forums, in press releases, and through the Internet.

This work is reflected in the following SEP topics:

  • Public Information

Policy, Planning, and Energy Security

Energy Data, Analysis, and Evaluation Program provides energy data for the state by serving as a clearinghouse and conducting analysis on energy data. Provide information to energy companies, state policy makers, statisticians and others interested in energy issues.

This work is reflected in the following SEP topics:

  • Policy and Energy Legislation
  • Energy Consumption and Price Statistics

Transportation

The Alternative Fuels Activity reduced vehicle emissions and encouraged and promoted fuel diversification to enhance air quality. It advised of grant opportunities and coordinated related alternative fuel activities with Clean Cities coordinators.

The Alternate Modes of Transportation Program promoted carpooling, bus ridership, and telecommuting through the state government programs established to combat ozone pollution in the summer months and carbon monoxide pollution in the winter months and reduce gasoline consumption. It conducted challenge weeks in which state employees were encouraged to use an alternate mode of transportation to and from work, offered bus subsidies and commuter club incentives, linked potential carpoolers, provided travel reduction information, and worked with state employees to increase participation in the state's telecommuting program.

This work is reflected in the following SEP topics:

  • Alternative Fuels
  • Carpools and Vanpools
  • Clean Cities
  • Telecommuting
