The webinar will provide information on the experiences of the cities of Tucson, Arizona, and Minneapolis, Minnesota, as they developed photovoltaic projects using requests for proposals (RFPs) and power purchase agreements (PPA). December 12: Live Webcast on Upgrading Processes to Produce Bio-Based Hydrocarbon Fuels

The Energy Department presented a live webcast titled "Upgrading Renewable and Sustainable Carbohydrates for the Production of High Energy Density Fuels" on Wednesday, December 12, 2012. The webcast highlighted the development of green hydrocarbon fuels as renewable alternatives to petrochemical feedstocks. Lignocellulose is a promising carbon-neutral source of energy that is derived from wood, agricultural waste, and woody grasses. Carbohydrates obtained from the hydrolysis of lignocellulose constitute the most abundant renewable organic carbon source on the planet. Because they are naturally-produced on a large scale, the resulting sugars have the greatest potential to supplement the supply of petrochemical-derived transportation fuel. Researchers discussed investigations aimed at obtaining high energy-density hydrocarbon fuels from non-food-based carbohydrate sources. Space is limited.

The Energy Department presented a live webinar titled "DOE Updates Jobs and Economic Impacts of Fuel Cells" on Tuesday, December 11, 2012. The webinar featured a tool for estimating the economic impacts of fuel cells in early market applications. The tool, titled "Jobs and Economic Impacts of Fuel Cells," estimates the jobs created by deploying fuel cells in forklifts, backup power, and prime power applications. The webinar included an overview of the model, recent updates, instructions for data entry and interpretation of results, and a question and answer session with participants.
