DOE Announces Upcoming Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Webinars on Fuel Cells for Portable Power and More
July 12, 2012
EERE offers webinars to the public on subjects ranging from how to adopt the latest energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies to training for the clean energy workforce. Webinars are free; however, advanced registration is typically required. You can also watch archived webinars and browse previously aired videos, slides, and transcripts.
July 17: Live Webcast on Fuel Cells for Portable Power
The Energy Department will present a live webcast titled "Fuel Cells for Portable Power" on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. This webinar will focus on recent R&D advancements in direct methanol fuels and their use in portable power. Researchers at Los Alamos National Laboratory will discuss advanced materials and the development of new methanol oxidation catalysts, hydrocarbon membranes with reduced methanol crossover, and improvements to component durability. Researchers at the University of North Florida will focus on a "passive-water recovery" MEA, which eliminates the water recovery components, and results in a small, lightweight DMFC power supply. Finally, researchers at Arkema will present their polymer electrolyte membrane design for direct methanol fuels which blends poly (vinylidene fluoride) and with a sulfonated polyelectrolyte.
July 17: Live Webcast on Community Renewable Energy Success Stories
The Energy Department will present a live webinar titled Community Renewable Energy Success Stories: Landfill Gas-to-Energy Projects on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, from 3:00 to 4:15 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The session will highlight both the challenges and benefits of developing successful community landfill gas-to-energy projects at the Prairie View Recycling and Disposal Facility in Will County, Illinois, and the Perdido Landfill Gas-to-Electricity Project in Escambia County, Florida.
July 19: Complete Clean Energy Projects with Qualified Energy Conservation Bonds (QECBs)
Energy Department's Technical Assistance Program will host a webcast on Qualified Energy Conservation Bonds (QECBs) and related recent guidance on Thursday, July 19th, 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. In June, the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service released new public tax guidance for QECBs, making it easier for state and local governments across the country to access the more than $2 billion of existing authority for low-cost financing for energy efficient and renewable energy projects that create jobs. This webcast will provide an overview of QECBs and a deep dive into the new guidance, as well as feature state and local government representatives, whose communities are already benefitting from the issuance of QECBs.
July 24: Overview of Guiding Principles for Federal Leadership in High Performance and Sustainable Buildings
The Energy Department will present the first in a series of live webinars titled Guiding Principles: Getting Started on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The webinar series is intended to assist federal agencies with meeting the current Guiding Principles for Federal Leadership in High Performance and Sustainable Buildings for OMB Scorecard compliance. The session will benefit those in the federal buildings sector including those responsible for annual sustainability and scorecard reporting, building owners, leasers, managers, operators, engineers, architects, designers, site energy managers, maintenance managers, and sustainability managers. This webinar will provide an overview of the Guiding Principles for Existing High-Performance Sustainable Buildings and will discuss planning, strategies, documentation, reporting, and data integrity for compliance.
July 26: Optimizing Energy Performance for Existing High-Performance Sustainable Buildings
The Energy Department will present the second in a series of live webinars titled Guiding Principles: Optimize Energy Performance on Thursday, July 26, 2012, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. For more info on the series, see the July 24 webinar listing above. This webinar will focus on one of the Guiding Principles—Optimize Energy Performance for Existing High-Performance Sustainable Buildings—and will discuss planning, strategies, documentation, reporting, and data integrity for compliance.
August 2: Placing UESC Task Orders Under a GSA Area-wide Contract
The Energy Department will present a live webcast titled Placing UESC Task Orders Under a GSA Area-wide Contract on Thursday, August 2, 2012, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The session will benefit energy managers and other professionals interested in learning a step-by-step approach to placing a utility energy service contract (UESC) task order under a U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Area-wide Contract. It will focus on developing skills related to the acquisition plan; preliminary audit and findings; feasibility study and project proposal; contract for construction; construction and installation; performance assurance and acceptance; post-construction and commissioning; and sample documents and templates. Successful project examples will also be shared.
