Department of Energy to Host LED Lighting Workshop in Cincinnati

The U.S. Department of Energy will host a free workshop titled "LED Lighting Basics" in Cincinnati on Wednesday, August 10. Presented by Dr. Jack Curran of LED Transformations, the workshop will introduce participants to the basics of light emitting diode (LED) technology and explore how and where LED lighting can reduce energy use and save businesses and consumers money.
LEDs use the same technology as the indicator light on your cell phone, but are designed to light homes, businesses, and outdoor spaces. They are one of today's most energy-efficient and rapidly developing lighting technologies. ENERGY STAR-qualified LEDs use only 20% to 25% of the energy and last up to 25 times longer than the traditional incandescent bulbs they replace.
Interest in solid-state lighting, an energy-efficient technology based on the use of LEDs, is growing at a rapid pace, fueled by demand for energy efficient products. New LED lighting products are emerging rapidly on the market, and it's important for consumers to be able to effectively judge the quality, specifications, and comparisons between them. This workshop provides vendor-neutral education for participants trying to understand this rapidly evolving technology.
The DOE workshop, which will take place Wednesday, August 10 from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Duke Energy Convention Center, Room 261, in Cincinnati, Ohio, is being held in conjunction with GovEnergy, the premier energy training trade show for federal agencies. Admittance to this workshop is open to the public—attendance is not limited to federal employees or GovEnergy participants.
