August 19: Live Webinar on Increasing Renewable Energy with Hydrogen Storage and Fuel Cell Technologies

The Energy Department will present a live webinar titled "Increasing Renewable Energy with Hydrogen Storage and Fuel Cell Technologies" on Tuesday, August 19, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The webinar will feature representatives from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and focus on how to integrate hydrogen and fuel cell technologies into the transportation, industrial and other sectors. Learn about the unique ways hydrogen storage systems can support the electrical grid and complement renewable generation. This talk will also look at the architecture of hydrogen storage systems and examine the economic competitiveness of those systems when compared with conventional systems.
August 20: Live Webcast on Preliminary Site Selection and Comparison for Utility-Scale PV

The Energy Department will present a live webcast titled “Preliminary Site Selection and Comparison for Utility-Scale PV” on Wednesday, August 20, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The webcast will demonstrate SunShot’s newly-released software to improve preliminary site screening and comparison for utility-scale PV projects. During the webinar, Idaho National Laboratory’s Scott Brown and Brigham Young University’s Dr. Dan Ames will present PVMapper, software developed through a multi-institutional partnership led by the Center for Advanced Energy Studies and Dr. David Solan of the Energy Policy Institute at Boise State University. Incorporating direction from the project’s industry steering team, the open-source application includes significant new features and stability improvements since the beta version. While PVMapper is designed specifically for utility-scale photovoltaic projects, it is also well-suited for site screening for other renewable technologies, as well as nuclear or fossil-fuel electricity generation plants.

Building Re-tuning to Reduce Energy Waste” on Tuesday, September 2, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The webinar will feature an Energy Department and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory curriculum, focusing on re-tuning both large and small commercial buildings – a low-cost process to identify and correct operational problems that lead to energy waste. July 29: Webinar on Supporting a Hawaii Hydrogen Economy

The Energy Department presented a webinar titled “Supporting a Hawaii Hydrogen Economy” on Tuesday, July 29. The Hawaii Natural Energy Institute (HNEI) discusses the status of current and planned hydrogen projects in the state. HNEI works to reduce Hawaii’s dependence on fossil fuels and increase energy security, serving as the implementing organization for several large-scale public-private partnerships to develop, deploy, and demonstrate renewable energy systems. The Energy Department and HNEI work on projects through a public-private partnership known as the Hawaii Hydrogen Initiative (H2I), which has deployed 16 fuel cell vehicles and built three refueling stations on Oahu. Other activities include a maritime fuel cell power demonstration at the Port of Honolulu and a renewable hydrogen generation station on the Island of Hawaii.View the past webinar.

This webinar features a conversation about nationwide efforts to address energy illiteracy through the Energy Department's Energy Literacy Framework. The webinar consists of presentations highlighting national, new media, and local efforts using e-books, experiential curricula, and best practices in energy education.
