September 12: Live Webinar on Fuel Cell Buses

The Energy Department will present a live webcast titled "Fuel Cell Buses" on Thursday, September 12, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. On behalf of the Federal Transportation Administration's National Fuel Cell Bus Program, the Center for Transportation and the Environment will present on worldwide fuel cell bus activities, highlighting key strategies and partnerships and how these are shaping the future of fuel cell bus deployment. The webinar will be followed by a presentation from the California Fuel Cell Partnership on its California Fuel Cell Bus Roadmap, providing a strategy and funding approach to move fuel cell bus technology from the current stage of full-scale validation to early commercialization.
September 18: Live Webinar on Small Wind Standards and Policy Update

The Energy Department will present a live webcast titled "Small Wind Standards and Policy Update" on Wednesday, September 18, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. Heather Rhoads-Weaver and Matt Gagne from eFormative Options will provide an introduction and brief demonstration of the Distributed Wind Policy Comparison Tool. Val Stori from the Clean Energy States Alliance will provide an overview of the Interstate Turbine Advisory Council, and Brent Summerville from the Small Wind Certification Council (SWCC) will discuss the SWCC and the role of standards in the small wind industry.

September 25: Live Webinar on the City of Los Angeles LED Street Lighting Program

The Energy Department will present a live webcast titled, "City of Los Angeles: LED Street Lighting Program" on Wednesday, September 25, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. Los Angeles recently completed a massive conversion program in which more than 141,000 of its streetlights were retrofitted with LED products, cutting energy use by 63% while saving the city $7 million a year in electricity costs and reducing annual carbon emissions by over 47,000 metric tons—the equivalent of taking nearly 10,000 cars off the road. Webinar presenter Ed Ebrahimian, Director of the Los Angeles Bureau of Street Lighting, will review lessons learned from this leading-edge project and will also cover financial considerations, program development, and feedback from the community and the police department. Cities, power providers, and others who invest in street and area lighting are invited to participate. IES continuing education credits will be offered.
October 1: Live Webinar on Building the Case for Energy Efficiency with Financial Decision-makers

The Energy Department will present a live webinar titled "Speaking the CFO Language: Building the Case for Energy Efficiency with Financial Decision-makers" on Tuesday, October 1, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. Better Buildings Challenge partners USAA Real Estate Company, University of California at Irvine, and Kohl's will share best practices for communicating the value of building energy efficiency projects and working with financial decision-makers. Audience members will learn about an online tool which lets users analyze the financial value of proposed building energy efficiency upgrades, a simple seating arrangement change that fostered new collaboration on energy efficiency, and best practices from the higher education sector for securing support for energy efficiency projects. The target audience for this presentation is facility managers, building owners, and other advocates for energy efficiency projects in buildings.
August 22: Webinar on the Street and Parking Facility Lighting Retrofit Financial Analysis Tool
The Energy Department presented a live webinar titled "Using the Street and Parking Facility Lighting Retrofit Financial Analysis Tool" on Thursday, August 22. The webinar describes how property owners, utilities, energy-efficiency organizations, cities, and other government entities can use the tool to compute annualized energy and energy-cost savings, maintenance savings, greenhouse gas reductions, net present value, and simple payback associated with potential lighting upgrades.
August 21: Webinar on the 2012 Distributed Wind Market Report

The Energy Department presented a live webinar titled "2012 Market Report on U.S. Wind Technologies in Distributed Applications" on Wednesday, August 21. Alice Orrell, energy analyst at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, and Heather Rhoads-Weaver, principal consultant at eFormative Options, provided a detailed overview of the Energy Department's 2012 Market Report on Wind Technologies in Distributed Applications. Jennifer Jenkins of the Distributed Wind Energy Association provided an industry-focused update, reflecting on current market conditions and trends.
August 13: Hydrogen Compatibility of Materials

The Energy Department presented a live webinar titled "Hydrogen Compatibility of Materials" on Tuesday, August 13. The webinar described hydrogen embrittlement and its impact on hydrogen distribution and storage. In particular, the webinar examined the challenges and existing guidance for selecting structural materials for hydrogen service. During the webinar, speakers from the Energy Department's Sandia National Laboratory reviewed the "Technical Reference for Hydrogen Compatibility of Materials," an important tool for identifying promising materials for hydrogen service and summarizing hydrogen compatibility data, as well as discovering gaps in available materials data and standards for qualifying materials for hydrogen service.
