EERE offers webinars to the public on a range of subjects, from adopting the latest energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies to training for the clean energy workforce. The Energy Department will present a live webcast titled "Deep Energy Retrofits and State Applications" on Thursday, June 20, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. This webinar will present information to help public sector organizations better understand the process of deep energy retrofits and the application of deep retrofit projects from a state's perspective. The presentation will provide a brief overview on work being done in this area, considerations for project selection, and the economic factors associated with deep retrofits. Using real world examples, some of the pitfalls and key items to consider will be presented in a practical manner that will help program managers and others effectively determine when and how to incorporate deep retrofits as effective components of an energy efficiency program.

June 24: Live Webinar on Ionic Liquid Pretreatment

The Energy Department will present a live webcast titled "Ionic Liquid Pretreatment Technologies" on Monday, June 24, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. Dr. Blake Simmons of Sandia National Laboratories will present on the discovery, design, and optimization of an ionic liquid pretreatment technology. This technology will allow for efficient processing of hardwoods, softwoods, agricultural residues, and other energy crops for later conversion to biofuels and bioproducts. By advancing research on this technique, Sandia is further contributing to the Energy Department's goals of creating reliable, sustainable, domestic biofuels.

June 25: Live Webinar on Hydrogen Storage Materials Requirements

The Energy Department will present a live webcast on Tuesday, June 25, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The Hydrogen Storage Engineering Center of Excellence has been modeling and developing onboard hydrogen storage systems and components utilizing materials based storage media to meet the Energy Department's technical targets for storage systems. This webinar will address the critical materials requirements needed for both adsorbents and chemical hydrogen carriers to meet the 2017 DOE technical targets.

July 9: Live Webinar on a New Energy Zones Mapping Tool

The Energy Department will present a live webcast titled "New Energy Zones Mapping Tool for the Eastern Interconnection" on Tuesday, July 9, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. This webcast will demonstrate the EISPC Energy Zones Mapping Tool, a Web-based decision support system used to locate areas that are highly suitable for clean power generation in the U.S. portion of the Eastern Interconnection. The tool has been developed for the Eastern Interconnection States Planning Council (EISPC) by Argonne National Laboratory in collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. It includes nine low- or no-carbon emitting energy resource categories and 29 types of clean energy technologies.
