EERE offers webinars to the public on a range of subjects, from adopting the latest energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies to training for the clean energy workforce. The webcast will highlight several successful initiatives to streamline and standardize permitting requirements for local solar photovoltaic projects. Presentation topics include the initiatives' outcomes, financial impacts, and economic growth opportunities as well as an introduction to available resources for local jurisdictions interested in implementing solar permitting initiatives on their own.

June 27: Energy Efficiency in K-12 Schools and State Applications

The Energy Department will present a live webcast titled "Energy Efficiency in K-12 Schools and State Applications" on June 27, 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Savings Time. Energy efficiency in schools is becoming a popular area for states to consider when designing programs. During this webinar, attendees will learn about the technologies suitable for schools in both retrofits and new builds in order to motivate school districts to move forward with energy efficiency efforts. Beyond technology, the speakers will discuss financial implications, the design process, and curricula that have been successfully implemented in school districts around the country.

July 9: Live Webinar on a New Energy Zones Mapping Tool for the Eastern Interconnection

The Energy Department will present a live webcast titled "New Energy Zones Mapping Tool for the Eastern Interconnection" on Tuesday, July 9, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. This webcast will demonstrate the EISPC Energy Zones Mapping Tool, a web-based decision support system used to locate areas with high suitability for clean power generation in the U.S. portion of the Eastern Interconnection, which has been developed for the Eastern Interconnection States Planning Council (EISPC) by Argonne National Laboratory in collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The tool is available at eispctools.anl.gov and includes nine clean (low- or no-carbon) energy resource categories and 29 types of clean energy technologies.

The discussion will include an overview of recent developments in third-party solar financing, community shared solar, bulk purchasing, and Clean Local Energy Accessible Now (CLEAN)/feed-in-tariff programs.

The webinar will also briefly cover where solar fits into the planning and zoning processes, best practices in planning and zoning for solar, and recent initiatives that facilitated solar energy deployment through changes in local planning and zoning requirements.
