DOE Conducts Energy Assessment at Aluminum Plant in Kentucky
DOE announced on January 24th that a three-day Industrial Energy Saving Assessment will take place at the Ohio Valley Aluminum plant in Shelbyville, Kentucky. Through such free energy assessments, DOE is working with major manufacturing facilities to identify opportunities to save energy and money, primarily by focusing on steam and process heating systems. DOE's Energy Saving Teams are visiting large federal facilities and 200 of the country's most energy-intensive manufacturing facilities as part of the national "Easy Ways to Save Energy" campaign launched last October. Ohio Valley Aluminum Company (OVACO) is a producer of raw aluminum products, called billets, which companies can press into shapes for items such as doorjambs, frames, and rails. Its three plants located in Shelbyville, Kentucky; Niles, Ohio; and Boonville, Indiana have a combined capacity of producing forty million pounds of aluminum products per month.
