DOE Deploys Energy Saving Team to California Fertilizer Plant

DOE deployed an Industrial Energy Saving Expert Team on November 11th to the Simplot fertilizer plant in Lathrop, California. The team is the first sent to an industrial facility as part the national "Easy Ways to Save Energy" campaign, launched by DOE on October 3rd. The campaign includes deploying teams to the top 200 energy-intensive manufacturing facilities across the country for free energy assessments, primarily focusing on steam and process heating systems. The Simplot facility produces nitrogen and phosphate fertilizers, and it generates steam and power on-site to run its production units. See the DOE press release and the Simplot fact sheet (PDF 406 KB). Download Adobe Reader.

DOE is currently accepting applications from U.S. manufacturing facilities for its free, comprehensive energy assessments. The application form is available on a new "Save Energy Now" page on the Web site of the Industrial Technologies Program, part of DOE's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. The Web page also includes a series of 15 free informational brochures that provide energy-saving tips for industrial plants. The application period for the first round of assessments closes on December 9th. See the DOE press release and the new "Save Energy Now" Web page.
