Energy Secretary Leads Power Outage Investigation

Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham dispatched teams of investigators over the weekend of August 16th and 17th to the Northeast and Upper Midwest to begin onsite investigations into what caused the nation's worst power outage.

In an additional effort to uncover possible causes for the outage, Secretary Abraham met with Canadian Minister of Natural Resources Herb Dhaliwal in Detroit on August 20th to finalize the United States/Canada Joint Task Force, established on August 15th by President George Bush and Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien. Secretary Abraham and Minister Dhaliwal will lead the task force set up to identify causes of the August 14th power outage and make recommendations to prevent future outages.
