Interior Department Awards $3 Million for Tribal Energy Projects
The U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) on March 14 announced that $3.2 million has been awarded to 21 tribal projects to assist in developing clean energy and various mineral resources. The assistance for 13 renewable energy projects includes a $655,000 award to the Crow Nation to advance an 8 to 12 megawatt hydroelectric project in Montana that will provide low-cost clean power to tribal members and encourage further economic development on Crow lands.
The renewable energy projects include biomass, hydroelectric, geothermal, solar, waste-to-energy, and wind energy. Tribes in California, Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Dakota, and Wisconsin received support for renewable energy. See the DOI news release.
