DOE Supports Oregon Solar Manufacturing Project
SoloPower, Inc. is getting a $197 million conditional loan guarantee to support a building retrofit and equipment installation for a thin-film solar panel manufacturing facility in Oregon, DOE announced on February 17. At full capacity, SoloPower's Wilsonville facility is expected to produce more than 400 megawatts of flexible photovoltaic (PV) panels annually. The project will create some 500 permanent jobs and 270 construction jobs, the company said.
SoloPower's manufacturing process deposits copper, indium, gallium and selenide (CIGS) onto rolls of flexible stainless steel materials and transforms them into flexible modules. This approach to CIGS modules decreases module size and weight, facilitates installation, and reduces mounting hardware. DOE's Loan Programs Office has issued loan guarantees or offered conditional commitments for loan guarantees totaling nearly $18 billion to support 19 clean energy projects.
