German Team Wins Solar Decathlon 2007

With an introduction from Assistant Secretary Alexander Karsner, Secretary of Energy Samuel W. Bodman announced the winners of the 2007 Solar Decathlon.

Praising the teams, their contributions to the world's need for renewable energy, and their homes with superior engineering technologies, Secretary Bodman said he was "very impressed" with all 20 homes and believed the work created here would benefit the entire world. He noted that Solar Decathlon is a two year process and that even now, a request for proposals for the next (2009) event is online at the Solar Decathlon Web site. He also announced that the Department of Energy is allocating $44.1 million dollars to energy efficiency and renewable technologies, with a portion of the money aimed at education efforts. With that, he announced the winning teams:

3rd place- Santa Clara University
2nd place- University of Maryland
1st place- Technische Universität Darmstadt
